Cite While You Write in Word
EndNote allows you to work with Word to insert citations and references from your EndNote Library into your Word document. You can then format the document into a citation style of your choice, e.g. Harvard, Vancouver, APA, etc. This facility is called Cite While You Write (CWYW).
When EndNote is installed on a computer, it also installs an EndNote tab on the ribbon in Microsoft Word. From this tab, you can choose and change the reference style of your document, and insert and edit citations. Each citation added to your document will appear in a reference list at the end of the document.
You can incorporate references in various ways as you write.
a- How to add Reference in Word

- Open the EndNote library that contains the references you want to use.
- Open Microsoft Word from your applications or programs menu.
- Open the document where you want to insert the citation or create a new document.
- In Word, you should see an EndNote tab in the toolbar at the top. If the tab is not visible, ensure that the Cite While You Write plugin is installed.
- Click in your Word document where you want to insert the citation.
- Click on the tab Tool in EndNote Library and then click on Insert Selected Citation.

b- How to add References in Word through Quotation marks
Another way to add citations is by clicking on quotation marks

c- To insert a Reference using Word
- Place your mouse cursor at a point in the text where you would like to insert a citation
- Click on Insert Selected Citation
- Search for a reference (use the author or a keyword from the title)
- Click on Insert

d- How to edit the Citation

- To edit a citation, click on the citation in your Word document.
- In the EndNote tab, click on Edit & Manage Citation(s).

- In the dialog box, you can add page numbers, exclude the author or year, and more. Make the desired changes and click OK.
e- How to generate the Bibliography

- As you insert citations, EndNote will automatically generate a bibliography at the end of your document.
- Ensure the bibliography is formatted according to the selected citation style.
- You can change the citation style at any point by selecting a new style from the style dropdown menu and clicking Update Citations and Bibliography.
