EMBASE

Guide to searching Embase, a biomedical database focused on drugs and pharmacology, medical devices, clinical medicine, and basic sciences relevant to clinical medicine.

Using the Medical Device Form

To search for information on medical devices for clinical evaluation reports and post-market surveillance.

A-Device Name

This section allows you to add the medical device you want to search for.
You can enter:

  • The device name
  • Synonyms or alternative names
This helps Embase map your term to the correct Emtree medical device vocabulary.

B- Adverse Effects

This section focuses on device-related adverse events.
You can add:

  • Default adverse effects syntax (pre-built vocabulary for device safety issues)
  • Device-specific adverse effect terms
This narrows your search to complications, malfunctions, or safety concerns related to the device.

C-Limit Options

This area allows you to refine and filter your search.
You can limit by:

  • Study type (e.g., clinical trials, observational studies)
  • Publication years
  • Date added to Embase
These filters help you control the timeframe and type of evidence included in your results.
