EndNote 20 for Mac

This guide describes how to use EndNote 20 for reference management, and for managing citations in Word.

Cite references in Word

References saved to your EndNote library can be incorporated into a Word document using EndNote's Cite While You Write (CWYW) function.

When EndNote is installed on a computer, it also installs an EndNote tab on the ribbon in Microsoft Word. From this tab you can choose and change the reference style of your document, and insert and edit citations.  Each citation added to your document will appear in a reference list at the end of the document.

To edit citations:

Use the Edit & Manage Citations option on the ribbon to edit specific references, change the formatting of in-text citations, add a prefix, suffix, and/or pages to your in-text citations.  The command is also used to remove citations.

To edit a reference list:

To change the content of a reference list, you must first make the changes in the associated EndNote library. For example, if you want to change the date of a citation, edit it in your library first, then go back into the Word document and select Update Citations and Bibliography on the ribbon.  The changes will be reflected in the reference list.
